Use Title Tags To Boost Your SE Ranking
By: Herry Brown

How often do you search for a website by using it's title? Maybe yes, if you're looking for a big company, or a brand name, specifically by its name. Otherwise you tend to look for the things by the key words that occur to you and are specific to your search.

The title of your webpages need to be unique for each page, and pertinent to the content that is on that page. So if you have a page that is your "about page", then you want to give a title that describes a little bit more regarding what your page is about.

Once you have decided on the best words for you think how you can incorporate them into your title tag so they make sense and help the user. Plus importantly your search engine visibility.

They should take hold of the attention of your users even after they read the first couple of words, but they still should precisely describe your webpage content with keyphrases used by searchers. Here is an example headline from my blog

Another reason for which Title tags command immense clout and hold vital significance is the fact that the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) actually displays the Title tags on it.

Now for the semantics. There is a huge debate on whether a company should be in the title tag at all, and where it should go. Obviously, the company name can take up some characters, but we believe there is a good reason to have it in there.

The TITLE tag should be kept between 60 - 90 characters in length. I've read many conflicting reports on TITLE length, but a good practical guide is Google. In search results, Google currently displays only approximately 65 characters of the title - some engines display more. Keeping this in mind, have the most important keywords at the beginning of your title.

This tag is also showed on the search engine result pages (SERP's) and those end results contain the keyword related text included in the tag itself. It carries considerable weight and must be produced cautiously to insure that they maintain the highest SEO effectiveness and they attract the end user and what they are searching for.

Targeted keyword optimization is something that you will want to do throughout the content of your pages and the main keywords are what you will want to place in your title. You will also want to learn more about Meta keyword tags because they are important too.

Don't have to many pictures if you can help it, most browsers' only load 4 pictures at a time and this can seriously slow down the page load time and put people off your site. You are better off having pictures on inside pages where your visitors are happier to wait; they do after all want to see your products.

You can also experiment with using symbols in your title tag to help grab the attention of the reader. You will often see symbols such as brackets or asterisks on each side of the text. Use these if you wish, but involves sacrificing some characters.
