Basic Blogger Terminology For Beginners

The post featured here lists a set of BASIC and ADVANCED terminology for newbie bloggers so that you can understand what you are about to get involved in. Save this list for your own personal use in order for you to learn terms in the blogosphere and move forward on the right path to an amazing and rewarding blogging experience.

Some of the terms are strange and bizarre and even humorous.

Blogger Basic Terminology:

1. Anonoblog – A blog site by a particular person which do not prefer to publish their personal name or identity.
2. Audio blogging – Also known as audio blog, MP3 or musicblogs. This blogger decides to use audio instead of text letters or posts.
3. Blog – Short form for weblog. Also considered a web page in my opinion.
4. Blogging – Creating posts and feeding your blog information.
5. Blogger – When you create a blog, this person is YOU !
6. Blogroll – This is usually a big or small list of other links or back links in the sidebar area of your blog.
7. Comments – When someone reads your posts and decide to respond with either a question or a nice remark to your blog, this is the area where it is done.
8. Comment Moderation – This gives the owner of the blog the right to either keep, delete or edit the comment from someone else.( So, if someone leaves a nasty comment, it does not have to show up on your blog)
9. Comment Spam – Comment spam when people just randomly leave garbage comments, links, link backs (known as spam) on your site. You can download 'Askimet' to help monitor this and reduce or eliminate spam altogether. ex: adult sites, phony lotteries.. etc..
10. Pod casting – A way of distributing multimedia files consisting usually of audio and videos online using feeds for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. In order to create pod casts, you must become a pod caster.
11. Post, This is what you decide to write on your blog and submit it so that people can read it.
12. Track back – Known as a 'PING' which is a very important piece of blogging. It simply allows other readers know that your blog has been updated.
13. Vlogging – Known as video blogging. Similar to Audio blogging, The Blogger uses video instead of text to attract visitors to their blog.



Blogger ADVANCED Terminology:

1. Archives – A categorized form and list of all of your posts on one page. Usually can be alphabetical and put in any order you choose.
2. Blogopotamus – A very long blog post. Lol!!
3. Blog roach – Someone who does not share your opinion and decides to comment in a not-so-nice manner. Usually rude people.
4. Captcha – A.K.A.: “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart”. These are verification images you need to type in to show that you are human and not a robot. This is very helpful to block automated spam comments from annoying spammers.
5. Dashboard – An area that controls all of the main functions of your blog once you log in.
6. Expandable post summaries – This shows a small teaser part of the post that will link to the full post. (Great for getting the interested reader to click on the remaining post)
7. Link baiting – A very informal way of writing good content with the main reason to get links from other sites or blogs.(important for building up links, back links and loyal blog followers)
8. Ping – A.K.A.: Packet Internet Grouper. Pings help to allow and let the other bloggers know about updates, changes and track backs.
9. Plug ins – files that add functionality and new updated features to your blog. Wordpress plug ins are incredible and I recommend adding them to increase many factors to enhance your blog. Most of the plug gins are self-explanitory and very easy to upload to your blog.
10. Tags – Special keywords used on blogs and other services. They help identify and organize information on blogs.
