Christmas movies are always about love and happiness. Sometimes people have unique tastes that they want to watch horror movies even though November has come and gone. There are individuals who want the thrill of watching scary, creepy, and suspense movies and they still want to watch these films even if it’s Christmas season.
Plenty of horror and thriller movies adapt the theme of Christmas or the setting of the film will be during Christmas time. Either way, fans would gather around their couches or bedroom with the lights off and enjoy the scare hair-raising Christmas movies bring.
An example of a thriller Christmas film is To All A Good Night. It tells the story of a chain of killings inside a school that happened during Christmas break. The slasher film becomes scarier when the two killers dress up as Santa Claus. As time pass, the characters realize that the killings might be somehow connected to the school’s dark past. It was revealed that years ago, a student accidentally died during initiation inside the school.
A horror comedy film released in 1996 also captured the attention of many giving it a sequel later on. Jack Frost is about a convicted serial killer on his way to execution who met an accident on the town where the Sheriff who arrested him lives. During the accident, the tanker that collided with Jack Frost’s transfer vehicle contained chemicals that melt Jack into the ice. People believed that the serial killer died in the accident but it was revealed that his soul bonded with the snow transforming him into a monster. He set out towards the town where the Sheriff who arrested him lives. He killed many townsfolk ending into a duel between him and the Sheriff. In the end, the Sheriff was able to push him into a truck filled with anti-freeze. While people celebrated because Jack Frost is dead, the ending shows a puddle of water which indicates that Jack is still alive.
Another gruesome film is the Santa’s Slay. This movie gives the icon of Christmas a twist by actually portraying him as the bad person. In the movie, Santa Claus went to Hell Township where he killed the townspeople using methods from Christmas celebration. Grandpa who is living in town told his grandson Nicholas the true origin of Santa. Apparently, Santa was Satan’s kid through a virgin pregnancy. He was fought by an Angel before and was defeated and sentenced to bring people presents for 1000 years. After 1000 years have passed, Santa is now back to his evil ways by killing people. Nicholas and his girlfriend fought Santa but they were almost killed. Grandpa was the one who saved them and it was revealed that he was the Angel who once defeated Santa. In the end, the authorities found a dead man in a suit and they assumed he was the criminal but in reality Santa escaped and was planning another attack.
Horror and thriller films are popular for people who want to be at the edge of their seats watching with their family or friends. For them, it is a form of bonding no matter how gruesome or nightmare-inducing the movies are. Christmas time does not escape this genre as many movies revolving around the sick and twisted ways people act during the holidays are shown.
