Experience Ethnic Music With World Instruments

Music as far as anybody knows differs in every country. The world possesses a rich heritage in music that is very different because of the musical instruments that they used to play. Ethnic instruments are part of our culture and legacy to the world in which we can really call our musical treasures. Due to the diversity of culture from different people and having creative imaginations, different musical instruments are created. These world instruments produce a feel of a familiar sound with rhythm and melody that we can relate to.

The classical world instruments range from drums, strings, wind, percussion and other cool instruments which can be a challenge to be familiarize with. They are numerous and all of which have rich heritage and originated in different parts of the world. Getting to know some of the famous ethnic instruments that are being used up until today may it is on concert halls or even on the street can be an educational but fun experience.

Drums are considered as one of the oldest world instruments for thousands of years. It bears the same basic design that has not been changed. An example for this is the Ashiko Drum which is an African drum that originated from Nigeria. It is being played mostly in festivals and street parades and makes you focus more on the rhythm having its own big deep sound. Tall people looks good with this and it is great for band that plays in drum circles and can be used for solo play. Other examples are bodhram, bongos, congas, djembe, doumbek and tabla drums.

On other hand, instruments that can produce incredible flexible sounds are string instruments. They are capable to be played in different music genres. A great example for this ethnic instrument that can be played from folk music to classical and even rock music is the Russian folk instrument balalaika. It can be played in orchestras in replacement for violins, violas and violoncellos. Celtic harp is another string instrument that can be considered as one of the most romantic of all instruments. It can create sounds that can be relaxing. It is perfect for people who want to achieve tranquility and for meditation purposes. Lute, oud, psaltery, saz, sitar, mandolin, tanpura and bouzouki are other example of string instruments that are popular in world music.

Wind instruments produce tunes that can be distinct and is used for remembering our rich heritage and culture. An example of a wind instrument that can produce a humming sound and is being preserved and supported by the active musical community is the Celtic bagpipe. Other examples of wind instruments are didgeridoo, harmonium, rag dung and shofar.

Gong. The gong on the other hand is used for different kinds of occasions such as ceremonies, TV shows, weddings, start and end of contests and many other occasions. It is one of the percussion instruments that has many types and have traditional functions as well. It has different pitches depending the type and size of the gong. Other kinds of percussion instruments are caxixi, cuica, kalimba thumb piano, singing bowls and tambourines.

If you want to listen and feel the beat of ethnic musical instruments, you should try celtic harps. It has a distinct sounds that creates music to hear. Or you may want to try left handed sitar.
